WATSONVILLE — A pilot making a landing at Watsonville Municipal Airport late Friday afternoon lost control and flipped over on the runway, severely damaging the plane, according to Watsonville Police Officer Randy Pesce.

The single-engine, Cessna 140 over-wing four-seater was eventually righted by a group of airport workers.

Airport employee Theresa Byers said such incidents are rare at the airport.

“These things happen sometimes,” she said.

The pilot said he had flown in from “the south,” but declined further comment. He suffered a minor head laceration. He was treated at the scene and not taken to the hospital.

Watsonville Fire Department, Watsonville Police Department and American Medical Response responded to the incident.

When asked if he wanted to make a statement about the incident, airport manager Rayvon Williams said, “nope.”
