Anzar wins first home game

Posted: Saturday, Oct 6th, 2012

The Anzar High football team won its first-ever eight-man home game in front of its fans, defeating Trinity Christian 52-48 on Friday night.

Gabe Hatcher scored three touchdowns for the Hawks, which broke a seven-game losing streak dating back to last year.

The Hawks had the lead in the third quarter, but Trinity Christian came back in the fourth quarter.

With three minutes left, the Hawks scored a touchdown to take the lead for good.

They then stopped Trinity Christian and got a first down thanks to the running of Hatcher to seal the win.

“It’s the greatest feeling ever, to finally get that first home win,” said Anzar coach Luis Espinoza. “It was better than the first away win.”

Anzar will face Pinewood at home next weekend.

• Aptos 54, St. Francis Central Coast Catholic 9: At Cabrillo College, the Sharks ended their lengthy scoring drought but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Mariners.

The win was Aptos’ fourth straight after an 0-2 start to the season. It has held its last two opponents to under 10 points.

With the victory, Aptos remained in a first-place tie in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League with San Lorenzo Valley, which shut out Santa Cruz.

St. Francis’ losing streak extended to three.
