WATSONVILLE ó Josie Lopez Puchi, longtime resident of Watsonville, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. She was 84.
Mrs. Puchi was born in Tuscon, Ariz. on Feb. 2, 1928. She moved to Fresno when she was young and came to Watsonville in 1965. She loved to cook and was known for her handmade tortillas. She was also a skilled seamstress and made her own clothes. She enjoyed gardening, her dogs, and listening to music, especially Bronco.
Mrs. Puchi is survived by her daughters, Carol Castro of Fresno and Corina Puchi of Watsonville; her sons, Rick Castro of Watsonville, Henry Puchi of San Jose, Ernie Puchi and Jamie Puchi both of Indio; her brother Lalo; her sisters, Carmen, Jessie, and Lupe; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Gerald Puchi; her brothers, Chico and Alfred; and her sister, Mary.
A visitation will be held at Mehlís Colonial Chapel today from 3-9 p.m. with a recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Help of Christians (Valley Catholic Church) on Friday at 1 p.m. with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
