WATSONVILLE — Pajaro Valley High School student Karla Garcia spent part of her lunch hour Friday lying quietly on a cot, watching as her blood ran through a thin tube and into a collection bag.

Garcia, 17, was one of more than 60 students who donated blood during the blood drive, which was hosted by the school’s Medical Technology class.

“I came to give back to the community,” she said. “It’s something I can do to help someone.”

Garcia admitted that she was scared for her first blood donation, but added that it didn’t matter.

“In the end I felt good,” she said.

Martin Moreira, 16, said he heard about the drive and about the importance of giving blood.

“It was really good to see so many people doing it,” he said.
