CORRALITOS — The sheriff’s posse has arrived, but unlike classic Western films, they weren’t riding horses or carrying sidearms.

Armed with a checkbook, they did save the day for the members of a Corralitos-based equestrian team.

After a pair of thieves on Friday stole a collection box that contained approximately $300, the members of Gwen Davies Horsemanship feared they would have to forego a Sept. 19 trip to Idaho to compete in the Sport Horse National Arabian and Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show in Nampa, Idaho.

But thanks to a $600 donation by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Posse and the Santa Cruz County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, they are closer to being able to afford the cost of gas for the trip, which is estimated to be $1,200.
