Vicenta ‘Tita’ Torres

WATSONVILLE — Vicenta “Tita” Torres died on Friday, August 3, 2012. She was 78.

Mrs. Torres was born in Mexico but moved to Freedom. She worked at the Watsonville Cannery and sold Avon in the 1970s for many years. She was awarded several decorations for her work. She was known for her gift as a seamstress, enjoyed reading, and being around her family. She loved to work in her flower garden and watch soap operas. She was a responsible woman who tried to help and support with all she could. She was instrumental in the raising of two grandchildren, Mario and Jonathan.

Mrs. Torres is survived by her children, Sylvia Torres (Nicolas Magana) and Jacinto Torres (Annette Acosta) both of Freedom; brothers, Ricardo Muruato of Watsonville, Juan Muruato of Tecate, Mexico and Armando Muruato of Torreon, Mexico; sisters, Celia Muruato and Esther Muruato both of Los Angeles and Elena Contreras of Aptos and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacinto Torres, and a grandson.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Mehl’s Colonial Chapel to help with funeral expenses. Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a Rosary and Chapel Blessing at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Pioneer Cemetery.
