WATSONVILLE — River Nursery & Flower Shop, a long-standing Watsonville business, is going through yet another major transition: They are giving up their retail storefront location on Freedom Boulevard and switching to phone orders for flower arrangements and plants.

Originally opened in 1950 as River Nursery and Supplies by Larry Tsuyuki at 46 Front Street, the business, now run by Laura Cass and Jennifer Tsuyuki, flourished in Watsonville and became the mainstay for nursery goods and garden advice as well as custom flower arrangements throughout the Pajaro Valley.

But with the downturned economy, and the recently decision by Cass to retire, the family run business is on the move again.

“We are so thankful for so many loyal clients that have come in for years and years,” Tsuyuki said. “Some of our customers have known us since Front Street. We are grateful for their support. Being in business for so long we have a broad customer base, even many from out of town and we hope that this will continue.”
