Weintraub adjusts to defeat Van Der Merwe in straight sets

APTOS — Amir Weintraub’s serve wasn’t working late in the second set against Izak Van Der Merwe, so he made a slight adjustment in his approach.

The move worked, and Weintraub will see more action at the 2012 Comerica Bank Challenger.

Weintraub defeated Van Der Merwe 6-4, 7-6 (1) in the first round of the singles tournament on a hot Monday afternoon at the Seascape Sports Club.

“I’m very happy I got the win,” Weintraub said. “Last week, I lost in the first round, and it was close. I was really looking forward to playing here and winning in the first round.”
