WATSONVILLE — New Graniterock CEO Thomas Squeri stated Monday in an open letter to the Aromas community that the company has no plans to conduct a controversial oil extraction technique known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.
“...Graniterock has no intention of conducting fracking or allowing fracking to be conducted on any Graniterock property,” Squeri stated.
The question was raised in June by concerned community members when a prospecting company began conducting seismic studies in Aromas at Graniterock’s A.W. Wilson Quarry.
The prospecting company – Freedom Resources – is a Houston-based oil exploration company known to use fracking, which uses high-pressure sand, water and chemicals, which are injected into deep-earth rock formations.
