WATSONVILLE — If a plan by Santa Cruz County Supervisor Greg Caput comes to fruition, 25,000 new trees will be growing countywide by the end of his term in 2013.

The planting project is already underway, with approximately 5,000 trees already in the ground.

Caput said his goal stems from his time as a Watsonville City Councilman and a county supervisor, when he heard numerous community members talking about protecting the environment.

“It’s for the environment and the (Pajaro) valley,” he said. “It’s such a beautiful valley.”
