Bomb squad detonates illegal fireworks at Buena Vista dump

WATSONVILLE — The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad detonated 65 illegal, homemade fireworks — deputies consider them not just fireworks but dangerous explosives — Wednesday afternoon at the Buena Vista Landfill.

The confiscated explosives totaled about 10 pounds, and they were detonated in three holes dug today at the dump.
