WATSONVILLE — Members of the public learned about the draft of the Watsonville Trails and Bicycle Master Plan and gave their input during a workshop Saturday at the Nature Center at Ramsay Park.
The plan would add about 33 miles of new trails around the city, said Assistant Director of Public Works Bob Geyer, while improving existing trails.
Geyer called the proposed plan of trails a "wheel and spokes" map — a trail would run in a circular loop along the border of the city, with many others branching off towards the center.
The plan is part of the Watsonville Urban Greening Plan that was funded by Proposition 84 in 2006. It is also an appendix to the Watsonville Vista 2030 general plan, which was approved by the Planning Commission last week. Geyer said one of the purposes of the trail plan is to create a "more walkable, livable community."
