WATSONVILLE — Roy Leroy Hughes Jr., a native of Watsonville, died on June 6, 2012. He was 50.
Mr. Hughes was born on February 2, 1962 to Roy and Adeline Hughes. He worked as a caregiver for more than 25 years. He also spent a lot of time at the Mariposa Wellness Center with his friends. He made a difference in the lives of the people there. He always had the time to listen to each and every one of them. He counseled people in crisis, gave people support, and always made them smile. He also encouraged people to follow their hearts and be themselves. They liked to call him, “The Real McCoy.”
The family would like to thank the doctors at the Santa Clara Medical Center for their excellent care and the sponsors at the Mariposa Wellness Center for the celebration of life service they held for Mr. Hughes on Thursday.
He is survived by his mother, Adeline Hughes; brother, Norman Hughes; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Monday with the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. and the Chapel Blessing and Memorial Service at 11 a.m. He will be interred at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Salinas at a later time.
