Woman stabbed in domestic quarrel

WATSONVILLE — A Watsonville man was in custody Tuesday following a domestic argument that resulted in a woman allegedly being stabbed.

Police initially got a call from concerned neighbors about a man and woman in a heated verbal argument at the Pacifica Apartments on the 200 block of Pacifica Boulevard about 10:30 a.m.

As the feud festered witnesses reported to 911 dispatchers that the woman appeared to be bloody and that the fight had escalated on a second floor breezeway.

Watsonville police arrived and quickly apprehended a male suspect. Watsonville Fire and American Medical Response paramedics treated the woman at the scene before taking her to Watsonville Community Hospital with a stab wound to her hand.

Police recovered the knife at the scene and fenced off the crime scene with yellow crime tape.

Roger Dahlberg said he was working in the area with a group of house painters when he heard raised voices.

“The man and woman were arguing and then I heard her scream,” he said. “I ran up there and got between them and tried to calm them down. I just kind of verbally separated them. Then a man came by who could help translate the Spanish. I just wanted the two apart. It’s a human being, you know, you’ve got to get in there and protect someone whose in trouble.”

Dahlberg said the police arrived “very quickly.”

“They were here in full force,” Dahlberg said. “They got the guy in cuffs right away.”
