Dorothy Ames

WATSONVILLE — Dorothy Jeanne Ames of Watsonville died Thursday, May 10, 2012, after a lengthy illness. She was 88.

Mrs. Ames was born on October 6, 1923 in Aurora, Neb. to Bessie and Winfield Spratt. She was raised in Ames, Iowa and attended Iowa State University. She, her husband, and their four children moved to California in 1957. Mrs. Ames worked as an office assistant at the Morgan Hill Times, and later she ran a childcare center in her home. Mrs. Ames and her husband Ed moved to the Watsonville area in 1981. She worked at Project SCOUT of the Watsonville Senior Center until her retirement in 2000. She had many talents. She was a very kind, loving person with a positive outlook and a bright smile. She helped many people throughout her life.

Mrs. Ames is survived by her children, Steve Ames and Alaya DeNoyelles, Joan and Bob Culbertson, and Jon Ames; brother, Dr. Irving Spratt; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond Ames; son, Ben Ames; and sisters, Bess, Marjorie and Marie.
