LAS LOMAS — A Watsonville man was shot and killed Saturday night while attending a party in Las Lomas, said Sgt. Terry Kaiser of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. The incident came shortly after another shooting and a vicious knife attack in Watsonville.
At 11:25 p.m. Saturday, deputies and fire and ambulance personnel were dispatched to 5 Gregory Road regarding a report of a subject having been shot.
Upon arrival Arturo Mendoza, 24, was found lying in the street where he was being tended to by emergency medical technicians. Mendoza was later pronounced deceased at the scene, Kaiser said.
A second victim, Andres Rocha Anaya, 19, of Bakersfield, was also shot at the same scene. He suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and was taken by ambulance to Watsonville Community Hospital, where he was treated and released.
