WATSONVILLE — Raymond Rondez remembers being so close last year. The Monte Vista Christian senior was in third at the Monterey Bay League Track and Field Trials but ended up in fourth place in the finals a couple of days later.
Because he wasn’t first or second, he didn’t earn a spot in the Central Coast Section meet.
Rondez hopes this year is different.
He was fifth in the triple jump qualifying on Tuesday at Watsonville High with a leap of 39 feet, 6 inches. The next four jumpers ahead of him all broke 40 feet.
“My goal is to make the CCS,” Rondez said. “It’s always been my goal ever since my freshman year.”
