I look forward to May for several reasons. The NBA and Stanley Cup playoffs are under way, and baseball season is motoring along.
I find May my start and end of the year for me. Among the reasons, itís the month in which I was born.
May was also the month in which I returned to my hometown and started here at the Register-Pajaronian. Itís been a wild year full of action as well as memorable and forgettable moments.
When I returned to the area, my family asked me, ďWhat are you going to do thatís different this time?Ē I didnít know, initially.
I eventually told myself I wanted to do three things in the first 12 months that are memorable. I didnít even know what those three things were, but I was going to find them.
Whether Iíve done three, Iím not sure, but hereís one of them: we are going to honor the best high school athletes in the region.
Iíve seen so many games ó to be honest, Iíve probably attended more games this year than in the past 10 ó and itís been awesome to see all of the student-athletes compete for championships, personal-best marks and rivalry wins.
Next month, weíre going to have a Athletes of the Year feature, where we recognize the best multi-sport male and female competitors who have stood out above the rest.
You can help us out.
Send us your nomination of who should be considered for the Athletes of the Year feature. You can do it in a couple of ways:
ē Email firstname.lastname@example.org, subject line ďAthlete of the Year Nomination,Ē and let us know who should be considered, the sports he or she played, and why.
ē Fill out the form on page C3 and leave it at our office at 100 Westridge Drive, Watsonville.
ē Tweet your nomination to twitter.com/GlennAtTheRP (just donít tweet to me any quotes from Drake).
The more nominations, the better itíll help us decide.
You have until May 31 to send us a nomination. Feel free to nominate multiple high school athletes.
Weíll announce the winners in June.
