Locals sprint at SCCAL trials

FELTON — Santa Cruz High’s boys runners sprinted their way to a top-three finish in the 100-meter run during the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Track and Field Trials on Thursday afternoon at San Lorenzo Valley High.

Nick Locatelli won his heat and had the best overall time at 11.64 seconds. Jonah Hodges and Alexander Morris both finished at 11.68 seconds.

The top eight from each event advanced to Saturday’s championship meet.

In the boys 400-meter run, Isaac Gettleman prevailed with a time of 50.62 seconds. Aptos’ Riggs Powell was third at 51.28 seconds.

Dean Fryn of St. Francis Central Coast Catholic made the cut in eighth place at 54.25 seconds.

In the girls 400-meter run, San Lorenzo Valley’s Jennifer Housek won the trial just a shade past 1 minute. Aptos’ Courtney Destaillats was third at 1:01.75. St. Francis’ Abigal Magno was eighth at 1:14.51.

The championship meet is scheduled to begin at noon Saturday at San Lorenzo Valley High. Running events will start at 2 p.m.
