WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville High baseball team broke through with five runs in the seventh inning and defeated rival Pajaro Valley 9-3 on a chilly Wednesday evening.

In the fateful inning, the Wildcatz put together six consecutive hits to get the five runs and leave no doubt.

Chris Rivera reached on his second infield single of the day, and James Duran followed with a single for his third hit. Ryan Olmeda then singled, bringing home Rivera and Duran to give Watsonville a 6-2 lead.

Nico Serrano blasted a double to centerfield and Olmeda came home for the Wildcatz’s seventh run. After a single by Ryan Munoz, Demetrio Navarro brought in Serrano with a single, the sixth straight by Watsonville, to give the Wildcatz an 8-2 advantage.

Noah Barto hit a sacrifice fly to right field, and Munoz came home for Watsonville’s ninth run.

Pajaro Valley scored a run in the bottom of the seventh when Isaac Hernandez hit an RBI single. The game ended on a force out at second.

Duran had three hits for Watsonville, which ended a four-game losing streak.

“I was looking fastball,” Duran said. “I got some hitters counts. I just wanted to get some hits.”
