SANTA CRUZ — The Aptos High boys volleyball team got revenge on Harbor High by eliminating it from the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League postseason tournament.
The Mariners survived a five-game battle on Harbor’s court Tuesday to advance to the semifinals of the league tournament.
Aptos prevailed 25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 25-27, 15-11.
It appeared the Mariners were going to end the match in four games, as it had a 21-18 lead and a load of momentum. Harbor responded with four straight points to grab a 22-21 advantage.
At 25-25, Harbor’s Fernando De La Torre got a kill to put the Pirates on the brink. The Mariners then were unable to convert on a kill attempt, sending the match to a winner-take-all fifth game.
