Vera Mae Laney (Verheyen, aka Pinky) passed away 04/24/2012 at 1:02 pm due to complications with her heart and kidney failure. Born on July 13, 1931 to Fred and Jimmy Josephine Verhyen, she graduated from Watsonville High School in 1949, then graduated from Stanford School of X-Ray Technician 1952, in San Francisco, California.
Vera worked at Watsonville Medical Group, Stanford Hospital and Watsonville Community Hospital before getting married in 1965 to Larry Elwood Laney. After having the couple’s son and daughter, Vera worked for Mervyn’s Department store until 1983, where she returned to Watsonville Medical Group, and then worked for Santa Cruz County Medical Clinic until 1994. Vera Retired in 1995 after having quintuple bypass surgery.
Vera shared her spare time with her son’s Boy Scout troop, and her daughter’s Girl Scout troop, she enjoyed her time camping, and she was willing to give up her birthdays and anniversaries to her husband’s scout troop. After retiring, Vera and Larry traveled to Alaska on cruises, and took their trailer and traveled all over the northern US states and all over Canada
Vera is survived by, her husband Larry of 47 years. Her son Matthew Anthony Laney of Sacramento with his wife Laura and their two daughters Caitlin 10 and Megan 8. Her daughter Maryfrances of Salinas her husband Denny Scott Ura and their infant son ShawnPatrick.
Upon Vera’s request she will be cremated. Services will be held in the middle of May. Ave Maria Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
