WATSONVILLE — Electric vehicle drivers who drive South County roads may now do so without worrying about running out of juice after an Electric Vehicle charging station was installed in March.
Built by San Francisco-based ECOtality, the “Blink” station on Main Street across from Watsonville Plaza is capable of charging an electric vehicle in 2-4 hours, depending on the level of the battery, said company spokeswoman Caitlin Cieslik-Miskimen.
The station was installed in Watsonville under the authority of the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments after a feasibility study determined that the area was lacking a place to charge electric vehicles, compared to several in Santa Cruz, said AMBAG planner Anais Shenk.
“We felt like there was a gap in South County, so Watsonville was the first place we looked,” Shenk said.
