SANTA CRUZ — Initial reports from fishers in the opening week of sport salmon season are a thumbs up.
Almost everyone returning from the sea to the Santa Cruz Harbor Wednesday had a beaming smile.
“It’s a good day — a good catch for everyone I’ve seen,” said Steve Bennett of Felton. “There’s a fleet of them out there on the west side; that’s where everyone is headed. I got up at 4 this morning and it was worth it. What a lot of fun.”
Bennett said he caught his limit of two king salmon in about an hour from his Sea Chaser motorboat. Both fish weighed between 10 and 12 pounds.
