Denis H. Wheeler died at Watsonville Community Hospital on Sunday, April 1, 2012. He was 77.
Mr. Wheeler lived in several states but moved to Watsonville in 1976 to work as a mechanic. He was an avid NASCAR fan and used to build and race cars before NASCAR was around. He loved to cook, especially his famous beans; play dice and card games and spend time with his cats, Pookey and Blackie and his dog, Sheeba. His byline “I tell you what ...” before a sentence will be remembered by all who knew him.
Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife of 17 years, Gale Wheeler of Watsonville; daughters, Andrea (Johnny) Quinlan, Carole (Peter) Car and Lona (Mark) Martinez; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will not be held at this time. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
