Joseph Anders Nielson (born 10/24/47) passed away at the Watsonville Hospital Monday, April 2nd. He is survived by his sister Carolyn (Robert) Gros and nieces Erika and Nikki of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by his extended family members, Charlie, Maxine, Darlene and Gary Loss of Watsonville, CA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary, father, Carl, and brother, Johnny.
Joseph was a true gentleman and a great patriot, who had tremendous respect for the US flag The Kennedy family was always the first family for Joe, and he admired Eunice Shriver for her work with Special Olympics. Joseph loved needlepoint, bowling, listening to Lawrence Welk and spending time with his soul mate, Darlene.
Joseph was proud of his 37-year career at the Skills Center/HOPE. During the last 2 years of his life, Joseph had the opportunity to live in his own home, where he was surrounded by friends and caregivers from SCSLS, including Bruce, Diana, Gayle, Leonard, and Xochitl. Joseph also counted among his closest friends, Lisa from the San Andreas Regional Center.
Donations may be made in his name to the SPCA.
Friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, April 10 at 11:30am at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville, CA 95076, 831 724-4751, with funeral services starting at 2pm followed by a private burial at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
