CAPITOLA — A branch of Chase Bank was robbed just after opening Wednesday on 41st Avenue.
Capitola Police Detective Marquis Booth said a man walked into the bank and presented a note demanding cash to a teller just after 9 a.m. The note also contained a threat of force. After the teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, the bandit fled on foot eastbound toward 42nd Avenue, police said.
“By this afternoon we don’t have a suspect,” Booth said.
Within minutes of the robbery Capitola Police were joined by the California Highway Patrol, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies and State Park Rangers in establishing a perimeter around the crime scene.
Eventually police brought a K-9 to the scene and began following a scent trail out the back door and into the surrounding neighborhood.
The suspect is described as a white male adult, about 25, 5-feet-9-inches tall, 165 pounds, slender build, pale skin and pronounced bags under his eyes.
Anyone with information about the incident or suspect is urged to call Capitola police at 475-4242 or used their anonymous tip line, 475 2791.
