Louis “Red” Jemison

Louis “Red” Jemison died Friday, March 12, 2010, in Santa Cruz. He was 85.

Born in Missoula, Mont., Mr. Jemison moved to the Pajaro Valley in 1947. He was known as a hardworking man and served in the Merchant Marines for 40 years, rising to the rank of chief engineer before retiring. In his retirement, Mr. Jemison and his wife, Bettie, owned and operated a real estate broker firm from 1979-90. He was also a member of the Masons for 60 years.

Mr. Jemison is survived by his children, Maurice Jemison of Watsonville, Louis Jemison of Capitola and Elizabeth Nugent of Discovery Bay; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie.

At Mr. Jemison’s request, private services will be held at a later date. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel has been trusted with funeral arrangements.
