Annie Marie Powell (nee Borrego) passed away peacefully on September 24th at age 79. She was born and raised in Watsonville, graduated from Watsonville High School Class of '54 and was married to her high school sweetheart, Sam Powell, for more than twenty years. They raised three children together and spent many happy years living in Hawaii on the island of Oahu during Sam's Naval career.
Annie was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and a doting grandma who delighted in family gatherings. She was generous, loving, strong and independent and proud of her local berry-farming roots and Spanish heritage. She lived a full, happy life; did it all her way and leaves a rich, memorable legacy that spans four generations.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Domingo "Don" Borrego and her late husband, Samuel Leslie Powell. She is survived by her brother, Richard Borrego and three children: Debora Norz, Denise Powell and Dennis Powell. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Alaun Buckley; Denny, Adam, Jon and Leslie Powell; and Melanie and Amanda Gannon, along with five great-grandchildren: Kiana, Alyssa, Skyler, Juliana and Jayda.
At Annie's request, burial will be private. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, October 19th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Watsonville.For the complete article see the 10-03-2013 issue.
