WATSONVILLE — Isabel Renteria Fuentes died at her home in Watsonville on Friday, June 21, 2013. She was 96.
Mrs. Fuentes was born on Nov. 19, 1916, in Ruidoso, Texas, and married Luis G. Fuentes in 1932 (deceased 1964). They lived in Marfa, Texas, then moved to Artesia, New Mexico. Finally arriving in California in 1953, they settled in the Las Lomas community where the family worked in the agricultural fields picking fruits and vegetables in the Monterey County and raising their family.
Mrs. Fuentes was an avid gardener, card player, quilt maker and excellent cook who loved Nortena Music and dancing. Her home was the center of family gatherings and celebrations.
She is survived by her children, Emilia, Delfina, Roberto, Margaret, Luis Jr., Juan, Manuel and Nicholas; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her children, Esteban, Clara and Francisco.
Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. with a recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at Valley Catholic Church on Thursday at 1 p.m. with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
