WATSONVILLE — Frank Wilhelm Bloss died in San Juan Bautista on Friday, April 26, 2013. He was 80.
Born in Chemnitz, Germany in January 1933, Mr. Bloss made the journey from Europe to New York in 1950 by way of an Italian garlic ship. After coming to the U.S. as an exchange student he soon signed up for military service and eventually became a naturalized citizen through the US Army.
Mr. Bloss married his wife of 49 years, Naomi, on Aug. 16, 1963, in Washington, DC. He attended George Washington University where he received a double degree in German Literature and Physics.
They moved their family of seven to Watsonville in 1980 to work at Lockheed Martin as an engineer. He retired in 1995, which gave him more time to follow his hobby; nature photography. He was an active member on the board of directors for the Monterey Bay Area Cactus and Succulent Society.
Mr. Bloss is survived by his wife, Naomi Bloss; and children; Sydney Bush, Wolff Bloss, Bertolt Bloss, Lisa Bloss, Tara Mel and John Bloss; as well as six grandchildren.
The Bloss family will hold a private service this week and a remembrance will be scheduled in the near future. Arrangements were entrusted to Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.
