Maria de Jesus Jimenez

WATSONVILLE Maria de Jesus Jimenez, known to many as Doa Chuy, died in a hospital in Sacramento on Sunday, January 20, 2013. She was 74.

Mrs. Jimenez was born in Guanajuato, Mexico but moved to this area 34 years ago, however lived for 12 years in Sacramento. She went to work at age 5, helping earn money for her family by cleaning houses. She was known in Mexico and Watsonville for her wonderful cooking at local restaurants, La Gardenia Restaurant (now El Real Camino), where she made Chile Verde and Cilantros where she added the Enchiladas Suizas to their menu.

Mrs. Jimenez is survived by her children, Gustavo (Tomasila) Gonzalez, Antonio (Guadalupe) Jimenez, Magarita (Octavio) Blanco, Francisca (Austreberto) Morales, Benigna (Simon) Tapia, AnaLila (Ricardo) Jimenez Marquez, Laura (Jesus) Sedano and Alicia G. (Darren) Jimenez de Stoughton; siblings, Jacinto (Socorro) Gonzalez, Cristobal (Rosa) Gonazalez and Guadalupe Gonzalez; 28 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bernabe and Senon Gonzalez.

Visitation will be held at Mehls Colonial Chapel noon-9 p.m. today with the Rosary at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Valley Catholic Church on Monday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
