Maria del Socorro Garza passed away at her home in Watsonville on Monday, December 3, 2012. She was 92.
Mrs. Garza was born in San Jose de la Paz, Jalisco, Mexico. She settled in Watsonville in 1960 after working in the fields following the crop for many years. She worked at local canneries, John Ingles, United and Western for 30 years before retiring. She was a hardworking woman. She liked to garden, watch novellas and cook for everybody. Most of all she loved her family but especially loved her grandchildren.
Mrs. Garza is survived by her sons, Jose Lopez, Salvador Lopez and Ray Garza all of Watsonville; daughters, Anna Elvira of Los Angeles and Rosa Maria Jaquias both of Watsonville; siblings, Francisco Coronado of Oakland and Martha Mesa of Mexico and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her children, Juan Lopez and Guadalupe Flores.
Visitation will be held at Mehlís Colonial Chapel on Thursday, Dec. 6th 4-9 p.m. with the recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Valley Catholic Church on Friday, Dec. 7th at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Watsonville Catholic Cemetery.For the complete article see the 12-06-2012 issue.
