Gregorio Lara, 94, of Watsonville, passed away Sunday morning in his home with family by his side.
Gregorio was born on November 9th, 1918 in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. He emigrated from Mexico to Oregon in 1942 before finally choosing to settle his family in Watsonville. He survived his wife, Francisca Lara, and his daughter, Socorro Ochoa. He leaves behind five daughters, and two sons: Teresa Osorio, of Los Angeles; Esther Gallardo; Addy Zaragoza; Jose Luis Lara, of Santa Ana; Maria Vazquez; Primo Lara; and Rosie Camacho. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, throughout California. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, extensive wisdom, story-telling, and his on-going passion for learning until the end of his time.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to Hope Lopez, Julio Magaņa, Hospice staff, and the staff from Ave Maria for their dedicated care, compassion, and sensitivity toward our father and our family. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 3pm-8pm at the Ave Maria Chapel with recitation of the Holy Rosary commencing at 7pm. Funeral Mass, Monday, November 19, 2012, 10:00 am at Valley Catholic Church, interment to follow at 1:30 pm at Pioneer Cemetery. Arrangements by Patrick and Debbie Carroll, Ave Maria Chapel.
