Carmen Navarro

WATSONVILLE — Carmen Sanchez Navarro of Watsonville died on Saturday August 11, 2012, in San Juan Bautista. She was 87.

Mrs. Navarro was born in Glenbar, Ariz., came to California in 1944, and resided in Watsonville. In 1944, she traveled to California at age of 17 to assist her sister Lupe Reyes with her first born son and remained there. She began working in the canneries and was employed by J.J. Crosetti for 25 years.

She enjoyed traveling to Arizona to visit her brothers, sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Navarro also enjoyed traveling local roads, historical sites and local beaches.

Mrs. Navarro is survived by her son, Edward Nanez, brothers, Ernest Sanchez, Fred Sanchez, Raymond Sanchez and Max Sanchez; sisters, Margarita Jimenez, Anita Marant, Gloria Gaboni; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Navarro; son, Benjamin Nanez; and one grandson.

Friends are invited to a visitation today from 4-8 p.m. with recitation of the Holy Rosary commencing at 6 p.m, at Ava Maria Memorial Chapel, located at 609 Main St., Watsonville, 724-4751. Funeral Mass with be on Saturday in Safford, Ariz. with burial to follow in the Glenbar Cemetery, Glenbar, Ariz. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Patrick and Debbie Carroll, Ave Maria Memorial Chapel.
