WATSONVILLE — Adeline R. Hughes, lifelong resident of Watsonville, died peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2012. She was 77.
Mrs. Hughes was born in Watsonville on Feb. 12, 1935 to Antonio and Caroline Rivas. She worked at the canneries and as a teacher’s aide for a short time before getting married and raising a family. She loved to play the accordion, sing, and cook. She was known for her sense of humor and was always telling jokes and playing pranks.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by her son, Norman Hughes; sisters, Rachel Sabedra, Carol Rivas, Esther Pierce, Helen Borcovich, Carmen Rodriguez, and Diane Garcia; and brothers, Tony, Charlie, Raymond, and Danny Rivas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Roy Hughes Sr.; son Roy Hughes Jr.; and brother, Al Rivas.
A Rosary and chapel blessing will take place at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Thursday at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas.
