WATSONVILLE ó Peter Roy Chavez Sr., lifelong resident of Watsonville, died after a brief illness on Wednesday, July 4, 2012. He was 51.
† Mr. Chavez was born in Salinas on Sept. 20, 1960 to Solomon and Estella Chavez.†† He started working at a very young age, from the fields of Watsonville to different shops, gardens, warehouses and coolers throughout California, moving with the seasons. Eventually he moved on to Fresh Delivery/Rodriguez & Sons Inc. where he started out as a forklift driver, then a flatbed driver, and finally a dispatcher and supervisor.
Mr. Chavez loved to sing and dance, laugh and joke, but above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Chavez is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rosemary Chavez; sons, Peter Roy Chavez Jr. and Michael Louis Chavez; mother, Estella Chavez; brothers, Robert (Aurora), Johnny (Vicky), Louie (Elida), Michael (Rachel), Richard (Irma), and Danny (Esper) Chavez; sisters, Bea (Leo) Duran, Priscilla Arellano, Terry (Manuel) Martinez, Chris Ramirez, Mary (David) Espinoza, and Barbara Chavez.
A visitation will be held at Mehlís Colonial Chapel on Wednesday from 5-9 p.m.† Services will be held at Green Valley Christian Center, 376 S. Green Valley Rd., Watsonville at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
