Ralph Razo Jr.

Posted: Monday, Jun 25th, 2012

Ralph Razo Jr. lost his courageous battle with ALS on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.  He was 48 years old.  As usual, Ralph was with loving friends and family.

Ralph was born in Salinas, California, although raised in Santa Cruz County.  He attended local schools in both Santa Cruz and Watsonville, but primarily Watsonville.  Some of the schools attended were H.A. Hyde, Rolling Hills Jr. High, and Watsonville High School.  Ralph worked at 7-11, Ace Hardware, and as a dispatcher for the Santa Cruz County Sanitation Department for 24 years.

Ralph played Little League Baseball as a youth.  He loved sports.  He was a proud Rams fan in football; a staunch A's fan in baseball; and a big Lakers fan in basketball.  He loved good food and watching cooking shows.  A huge passion for Ralph was music!  He loved Metal, Motown, Oldies, and especially enjoyed playing the guitar and going to concerts.  Ralph was always known for his loud, gregarious laugh.  He loved to joke around with everybody.  He also enjoyed traveling and was able to take many trips with his close friends and family.  Ralph had many, many friends and really loved spending time with all of them!  The light of Ralph's life, however, was his only son Perry.

Ralph is survived by his son, Perry Razo; his father, Ralph C. Razo and devoted mother, Jenny Razo; his brothers, Peter (Claudia) Razo, Raymond Razo and Alma Rodriguez; three nieces, a nephew, a great-niece, and two great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to "The Fist Bumps”(www.thefistbumps.org), a non-profit team that since 2009, Ralph and numerous friends and family have participated in Monterey for the annual Walk to Defeat ALS, which raises funds for research and patient services.

Visitation will be held at Valley Catholic Church (Our Lady Help of Christians) on Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m.  Mass will be celebrated the following day at Valley Catholic Church at 11 a.m.  Arrangements were entrusted to Mehl's Colonial Chapel.
