WATSONVILLE — Helen E. McCurdy, long-time resident of Watsonville, died on Sunday, May 27, 2012. She was 97.
Mrs. McCurdy was born in Oakland on Nov. 2, 1914 to Thomas and Gertrude McCaffrey. In 1940, she married Edward McCurdy and they raised four daughters together. In 1979, after Edward retired, they moved to Watsonville. She loved gardening and grew everything from vegetables to flowers. She was a member of the local gardening clubs, the Watsonville Bonsai Club, and Fuchsia Club. She was also an excellent cook and her house always smelled good and welcoming with the aromas of her home cooking.
Mrs. McCurdy is survived by her daughters, Sharon Stephens of Freedom, Patricia Mandere of Spokane, WA, Dorothy Giusti of Sacramento, and Kathy Parks of Chico; her sisters, Frances Taglaferri and Gertie Eisan of Saint Helena; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Edward McCurdy.
Private services have already been held. Arrangements were entrusted to Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.
