WATSONVILLE — Alvira Corral, long-time resident of Watsonville, died at Watsonville Community Hospital on Monday, April 30, 2012. She was 79.
Mrs. Corral was born in Aromas on March 2, 1933 to Cresencio and Margaret Corral. She had resided in Watsonville for more than 50 years and was a line supervisor at Watsonville Cannery for over 35 years before she retired. Mrs. Corral was a member of the Senior Circle and she loved fishing, playing Bingo, and shopping at flea markets and yard sales. She helped out many people in her community to a great extent by buying glasses, clothes, providing funds for education or surgeries, and so much more. She was a great friend and mentor to many.
Mrs. Corral is survived by her daughter, Barbara Leon and future son-in-law, Moses Guzman of Watsonville; her brothers, Alfred Hernandez and Ralph Corral; her sister, Eleanor Van Soest; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Alfred Manuel Leon and her sister, Dolores Patterson.
A visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be held at Valley Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
