Watsonville High School is looking to fill three athletic positions for the 2013 season. The three positions available are volleyball, cross country and girls basketball varsity coaching positions. All interested should contact Watsonville High School Athletic Director Saul Ruiz at saul_ruiz@pvusd.net or call 831-728-6390.

Track and Field

Watsonville athletes Brianna Cueva and Raymond Silver competed at the New Balance National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Greensboro, N.J.

Raymond Silver was able to clear 6 feet, 4 3/4 inches in the high jump and he finished in 16th place.

Silver qualified for the event by leaping over 6-7 at the State preliminaries on May 31. The school record jump also qualified the junior for the State finals, where he placed 10th.

Cueva, who was also a State finalist, threw the discus 131-4 and it landed in 13th place. The senior will be attending CSU Northridge next year to continue track and field.

Watsonville’s Ramsay Tennis Club 6.0 55 and over mixed doubles team won the NorCal Sectionals Championship at Stanford.

The squad, coached by Jon Tarr, won the local league against the La Madrona and Scotts Valley to qualify for the NorCal sectionals.
