APTOS — The Watsonville American Athletics went down to the San Juan Aromas Giants 7-3 and were eliminated from the Minors Tournament of Champions on Wednesday night at Harvey West Park in Santa Cruz.
It was the Giants who came out firing on all cylinders from the beginning. They scored two runs in the opening inning and held the Athletics scoreless through the first three innings. The San Juan Aromas champs were able to tack on three more runs in the third inning to stretch the lead to 5-0.
It wasn’t until the fourth inning that the Watsonville American champions were able to get on the board. Danny Galvan came to the plate with the bases loaded and was able to smack a double that skimmed the second baseman’s glove, but was able to see its way into the outfield and bring in two runs. One more Athletic came around to score on a wild pitch and the Giants lead was down to a workable two runs.
Galvan, who was also on the mound, was able to hold the Giants scoreless in the next inning, and the rest of the A’s set up a beautiful scoring opportunity.
With no outs Dannie Aguilera, Elijah Callen and Edwin Herrera were all able to get on base, but the next three A’s went down and no runs scored leaving all three on base and also leaving their best chance of a comeback in the game.
The Giants added one more run in the final inning and the A’s were unable to muster up another score.
