Zach Saucedo commits to Carroll College

Former St. Francis Central Coast Catholic Shark and Cabrillo College Seahawk Zach Saucedo signed with Carroll College in Montana.

The 5-foot-10 inch 185 pound defensive back was a two-year starter with the Seahawks. Last season he had 50 tackles and one pick for the Hawks.

While at St. Francis, Saucedo played three years at the varsity level. In his senior year he rushed for 1,134 yards and scored 17 touchdowns. He also had 72 tackles and three interceptions as a defensive back.



• Aptos 7, Santa Cruz 0: The Aptos Mariners took down the Santa Cruz Cardinals in dominating fashion on Thursday afternoon.

Michelle Firebaugh pitched seven innings and only gave up three hits. She struck out seven of the hitters she faced. She also had a three-run homer in the sixth inning.

Amada Ang had two hits and two RBIs. Emma Wilson and Nicole Getzschamn both had an RBI. Kate Jeffrey finished with three hits.

The Mariner’s next game will come against the Harbor High Pirates on Monday.

• North Monterey County 10, Alisal 0: The North Monterey County Condors shutout the Alisal Trojans at Alisal on Friday afternoon.

Danielle Blaylock was the winning pitcher. She struck out 12 hitters and only allowed one hit in her performance.

Demelza Perez finished 4-4 with a home run and a double. Sydney Wilson also had a double for the Condors.

The Condors are sitting at 6-2 below the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs in the MBL Pacific standings. They will play Alvarez on Wednesday.



•Cabrillo 7, Canada 5:

The Cabrillo College Seahawks were crowned as the Coast Conference Champions with their win over visiting Canada College on Thursday afternoon.

Zach Settles was the winning pitcher and he went seven innings giving up six hits and only two earned runs.

Scott Mercer had a strong game again for the Hawks. He finished 3-4 with three RBIs. He came around to score once.

Nick Macfarland scored three times.

•St. Francis C.C.C. 8, William C. Overfelt 7: The St. Francis Central Coast Catholic Sharks downed William C. Overfelt of San Jose on Friday afternoon.

Jacob Carmona was the winning pitcher allowing eight hits, and three earned runs.

Sahid Valenzuela finished 3-3 with two runs and an RBI. R.J. Zuniga went 2-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Jacob Cardona scored twice.

The Sharks will face off against Aptos on Tuesday at Aptos High School.


Track and Field

•Watsonville and Pajaro Valley: The Watsonville Wildcatz, Pajaro Valley Grizzlies and Christopher Cougars all met on Thursday afternoon in a Monterey Bay League Pacific dual meet.

Watsonville girls varsity finished 5-1 on the season in MBL Pacific meets, second only to Christopher high who beat the Catz on Thursday 86-48.

Watsonville boys varsity finished at 5-1 as well and trail Seaside at 6-0.
