Two Watsonville High female student-athletes set new school records Thursday in a dual meet against Alvarez High at Emmett Geiser Field.
Brianna Cueva threw the girls shot put 39 feet, 8 inches for a new school record. She bested her personal best by three feet.
Sonya Cervantes set a new mark in the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.16 seconds. Cervantes also was a part of the winning 400-meter relay team that moved into third all time with a time of 51.52. Marisa Magana, Alexa Carillo and Nadyne Vargas were on the relay team.
The girls team defeated Alvarez 76-63 to improve to 2-0 in the Monterey Bay League’s Pacific Division.
In the boys meet, Watsonville prevailed 90-40 to also move to 2-0.
Justin Carrancho was the star of the boys meet, winning the 800-meter run and 3,200-meter run. He also was a part of the winning 1,600-meter relay team with Graham Foster, Matthew Manriquez and George Ruiz.
