APTOS — The Scotts Valley High softball team picked up a rare win against Aptos on Thursday afternoon, scoring right away to win 6-2.

The Falcons offense backed Seryna Tapuloa, who pitched a complete game and struck out four.

With the win, the Falcons ended a two-game losing streak. Aptos, meanwhile, lost its second in a row, both league contests.

Scotts Valley never trailed, taking a 2-0 lead before Aptos got an at-bat.

With one out, Michelle Ponos singled. Sarah Reyes hit a fielder’s choice and reached first safely, as the throw to second to get Ponos out went wide. Tapuloa later singled home Ponos, and Grace Giguiere singled in Reyes.

Scotts Valley had the bases loaded and visions of a monster inning, but a force out at home and a strikeout ended the threat.

Aptos came back in the bottom of the first inning and responded with a run. Marissa Bugayong worked a walk and got to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jennifer Segura. After a strikeout, Casey Messersmith came up and worked a walk. While Messersmith was batting, a pitch went to the backstop, and Bugayong raced to third.

Emma Wilson then came to bat and delivered with a single, scoring Bugayong to cut Aptos’ deficit to 2-1.
