WATSONVILLE — The North Monterey County and Pajaro Valley high school boys basketball teams won’t play a third time in the regular season, so they’ll just have to live with the fact that they each went into the other’s gym and got a victory.

It was North Monterey County who exacted revenge on Pajaro Valley, rallying from a 13-point deficit to win 71-55 on Wednesday night.

The tide turned with six minutes to go in the third quarter. One of Pajaro Valley’s top guards, Pedro Lomeli, picked up his fourth foul as Isaiah Garcia went up for a shot.

Garcia made his free throws as Lomeli went to sit.

All of a sudden, momentum switched the Condors’ way. Jordan Graves got back-to-back fast-break buckets to cut the Condors’ deficit to 33-28.

The Condors threatened to cut in deeper off a Pajaro Valley miss, but Pablo Flores got a steal and a layup to get an answer for the Grizzlies, 35-28.

Consecutive bad inbounds passes stung the Grizzlies, as Graves got the first, and Kevin Montemayor got the second to cut the margin to 35-32 with 4:31 to go.

“We got a little bit of momentum, and we rode with it,” Graves said. “We had to come out and play hard, and that’s what we did.”
