APTOS — Nikki Hiltz has wanted to sign her letter of intent for so long, but she had to wait until Wednesday.

The Aptos High standout runner will head to the University of Oregon this fall on a scholarship. She will compete in cross-country as well as track and field.

Hiltz was one of thousands of student-athletes throughout the nation to announce where they’re going to college as part of National Letter of Intent Day. Wednesday was the first day many student athletes, mostly football and track, could sign their letters of intent.

Although Hiltz had dwindled her decision down to four schools, Oregon ended up being the clear favorite.
