SANTA CRUZ – The ball went high into the air near the Santa Cruz Warriors’ basket, and Jeremy Tyler found himself needing to get through two Sioux Falls defenders to get it.

The ball went right into Tyler’s hands as both Skyforce defenders crashed to the ground. Tyler dunked the ball home with two hands, and the Santa Cruz faithful celebrated late in the first half.

It was one of the many rim-rocking dunks the Warriors produced as they finished their first-ever homestand at Kaiser Permanente Arena with authority, defeating the Skyforce 109-93 on Sunday. In four games at the arena on 140 Front St., the Warriors won all four times.

They were ahead by 22 at the start of the fourth quarter before Sioux Falls cut it to eight a couple of times. But three-pointers by Stefhon Hannah in the final three minutes sealed the contest.

Five players scored in double figures. Kent Bazemore, once again on assignment by the Golden State Warriors, scored a game-high 21 points. Jeremy Tyler, also on assignment by big brother in Oakland, put in 18 points.

The game was built early on as a showcase of two of the D-League’s top 10 players to watch, as Travis Leslie and Sioux Falls’ Andrew Gouldelock were going to duel against each other.

Leslie helped the Warriors get the upper hand, scoring 16 points and grabbing eight rebounds. He had 10 points at the break.

Gouldelock finished with 14 points, but did more of his damage in the second half as he tried to get the Skyforce within an arm’s reach of the Warriors, who improved to 9-2.
