San Lorenzo Valley downs St. Francis on homecoming

FELTON - Derek Poetzinger scored three touchdowns and had more than 100 yards rushing as the San Lorenzo Valley High football team celebrated its homecoming game in style, beating St. Francis Central Coast Catholic 45-7 on Saturday afternoon.

Jason Bryson scored two touchdowns for the Cougars, who took the first lead of the game and didn't look back.

With the win, San Lorenzo Valley improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League. It shares first place with 3-0 Aptos.

St. Francis fell to 1-6 on the season as it lost its fourth consecutive game.

Quarterback Matt Clifton tallied 101 yards passing and one touchdown.

The Sharks got on the board with 25 seconds to play in the second quarter when Clifton threw the ball to a leaping Garrett Saucedo.

The Sharks went into half trailing 31-7.
