WATSONVILLE — Although Pajaro Valley High’s latest volleyball match was in its own gym, the Alvarez High players and their fans did as much as they could to make Pajaro Valley feel like they were playing an away contest.

Pajaro Valley overcame the noise and prevailed in four games Tuesday night to do something it hasn’t done since its league championship season in 2009.

The Grizzlies prevailed 25-16, 26-24, 17-25, 25-22 to improve to 3-3 in Monterey Bay League Pacific Division play. They haven’t been .500 or better after six league matches since 2009, when they were 5-1.

And suddenly, they’re in a playoff chase.

Pajaro Valley is behind three teams in the standings but only 2 wins out of first place thanks to Christopher (5-1) defeating Monterey (5-1) in a first-place showdown earlier in the night. Alisal is 4-2 and didn’t play on Tuesday.
